Carseldine couple recognised during Foster and Kinship Carer Week
A Carseldine foster carer and her husband have been given the Brisbane Regional Foster and Kinship Carer Excellence Award at a cermeony with seven other Queensland winners.
Luse and Tartu Santos received the award from Child Safety minister Tracy Davis at a high tea at Brisbane’s St Margaret’s Anglican Girls School.
Mrs Santos said she and Tartu had cared a 16-year-old and seven-year-old boy for two years and acted as respite carer for four other foster children on weekends.
“I had no idea I’d been nominated and when my agency Key Assets phoned up to tell me I’d won I couldn’t control my tears had to tell my foster son they were tears of happiness.”
Mrs Santos said she and Mr Santos had read of the need for carers in the newspaper and applied late February 2011.
