Foster Carers Talk about Key Assets

Having no children of our own we decided we wanted to share our life and home with a child who needed a stable, safe and loving environment to grow up in, we became foster carers with Key Assets.
As first time carers we've had some challenges along the way, but with the wrap around support and practical help and advice from the great team at Key Assets we have all settled well into family life.
By working together as a team we are creating a brighter future for our foster child.

Claire

Hello, my name is Cheryl and my husband’s name is Ray and I would like to tell you all how our lives have changed since we started fostering.

My own two sons have grown up and got married so we liked the idea of having a child in our house to care for. We have had the child for 8 months now. For the first 3-4 months we found that we had to make a lot of adjustments, as did the child because she had to get used to a new home, new school, friends etc, so although we had boundaries we also had to make allowances for problems in the child’s past.

Key assets gave us excellent training before we had a child and ongoing training on how to cope and handle different situations that might arise as of course in the beginning times can be a bit tough. In our case, the child worked through a lot of anger but with love and a stable home her anger problem has got a lot less with time and she has shown a lot of love for us and we with her. Our bond is very strong, I think it will last forever. You would not recognise the child now from the angry young girl who first came to us 8 months ago. So if you want to help a child the rewards are great as you can see how the child develops and grows in your care, and you need to allow time to Watch, Listen and get to understand and know the child.

Key assets in my opinion is first class in taking care of the children and their carers, they are friendly and definately know their business. They have all become good friends with us and more importantly is the fact that we can turn to them in any crisis that might arise and they will be there on hand to help us. We trust them completely.

We would recommend fostering a child to any person who can offer a child some of their time and a stable, loving environment.
