In 2000, I pursued my interest in working directly with foster carers, and was successful in becoming a social worker with Key Asset Fostering’s sister organisation, Foster Care Associates (FCA). During my time with FCA, I worked as a senior practitioner, Team Manager responsible for foster carer recruitment and approval, and as a Deputy Director.

I am employed as Children and Young People's Support Manager. I coordinate and manage the support workers, who work as a team to look after our children and young people. I enjoy working here very much. Previously I had worked in the Department for Child Protection for 12 years and felt it was time to broaden my horizons although I wanted to stay in the child protection field. The reason I came to Key Assets Fostering was the Team Parenting™ approach to foster care. I like the way we have a personal approach with the carers, their families, and the children we foster. I enjoy getting to know all of our children on a one to one basis. We work closely as a team here and this is the way I work best. I also organise holiday activities and group events for the children and the birth children of foster carers. I am proud to work for Key Assets Fostering and hope to work here for many years to come.”

This work exposed me to many varying and challenging aspects of child protection, allowing me to gain the skills and maturity to move to Key Assets Fostering as Recruitment and Panel Officer.

Through my studies I have developed a passion for working with children in both the Criminal Justice System and the foster care system. I am planning on making my full time career in this industry. As well as this I am actively involved in volunteer projects within the local community, and on a larger scale through student volunteer clubs as well as through Rotary.
“Key Assets Fostering is the perfect work place for me because it is giving me hands on experience in the area of foster care, working with people with a multitude of experience, and who are all incredibly passionate about fostering and the children in our care. I hope to continue with the company during, and perhaps even after, my studies are completed.”

Sam

“I am a Support Worker at Key Assets Fostering. I have been in Australia since September 2010; originally from the North of England. My working background has previously been working with children who had social, emotional and behavioural difficulties in mainstream schools. I have worked with many children with challenging behaviours from a range of different cultures and backgrounds.
“I enjoy working together in a team to achieve the best for the children and young people that we work with. My new role is very similar to my previous job and that is why I enjoy working at Key Assets Fostering. I love working with the children and trying to make a difference to their lives.”

Janice

“I started working at Key Assets Fostering in 2008. Originally from the UK, my thirty plus years of administration experience spreads across a wide range of organisations. Outside the workplace I have been involved in many activities involving children and young people including a drama workshop and a variety of junior sporting clubs. I can honestly say the position I have now is one of the most rewarding times in my career as I have the privilege to work with and meet fantastic people who make a difference to the lives of children and young people. What more can I say? I love my job!”

Monica

“My role at Key Assets Fostering is as Office Administrator and back up to Debbie Scott, Group Business Manager for Australasia. I am the first person you will see if you come into our Fremantle office and most of the time the person who will answer your phone calls. I will liaise with carers and staff to ensure the office runs smoothly. After working in our family business for so many years I felt like I needed a change and have a huge passion for helping others and enjoy contributing towards our community and especially the young people in our community. I look forward to working in a role that is rewarding and being an employee of Key Assets Fostering for many years to come.”
