Key Assets Fostering is a non-profit organisation which operates as a non-government foster care provider in Queensland.
Our foster care services are designed to meet a wide range of needs. These include the complex needs of children and young people with difficult histories or behaviours who may make considerable demands on their foster carers.
We also offer specialist services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people in line with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child Placement Principle.
Our recruitment programmes are geared to bring in foster carers from various backgrounds and with unique skills sets. We can then match our placements requests appropriately from a geographical and cultural perspective.

Our approach
Our approach brings the established framework of other Fostering First International organisations to Queensland through the delivery of Team Parenting™. Team Parenting™ provides an intensive amount of training and support to foster carers, children and young people, and families. To achieve this, we employ a range of multidisciplinary professionals.
Our foster care placement services
We provide a wide range of family-based foster care services for children and youth. This includes:
- Emergency placements – These involve caring for children who need somewhere safe to stay immediately, usually for a few nights or weeks.
- Short term placements – These involve looking after children for a few months until difficulties at home are resolved, or alternative plans are made for their future.
- Long term placements – Longer term placements aim to provide care for children until they reach adulthood and are ready to live independently.
- Respite placements – Respite involves children living with their own families or foster carers but having short stays with another foster family to give their main carer a break.
- Parent and child placements – These involve a carer looking after a parent and his/her child(ren) or a young woman who is pregnant.
- Remand placements – Remand carers look after young people who are remanded by the courts into public care. These placements are usually short term and require the carer to work closely with the Youth Justice Service.
- Children Seeking Asylum – A child seeking asylum is someone who is under 18 years of age, has been separated from their parents or family and is applying for asylum in his/her own right. These young people have often travelled long distances, can be frightened or confused, and may not speak English.
Working with you
Colleagues from the Department of Communities are able to commission our services on an individual basis or through block contracts for particular groups of children and according to a range of specified components at regional or state wide levels.
The role of Key Assets Fostering is to complement the service offering from the Department by working in strategic partnership with you. By working together we can offer children and young people a brighter future.
