Becoming a foster carer

Becoming a foster carer involves caring for someone else’s child in your own home at a time when his or her family is unable to do so. At Key Assets Fostering, we are keen on speaking to anybody thinking of becoming a foster carer in Queensland.

There are a number of different practical and emotional considerations in becoming a foster carer, which are discussed throughout this section.

More about becoming a foster carer

To become a foster carer in Queensland you will need to provide a safe, secure and stable environment for children and young people. You will be required to work with the children, their family and the Department of Communities (Child Safety Services).

Key Assets Fostering believes in providing quality care in a family setting and providing the right amount of foster carer support and foster carer training to help our carers in the fostering task.

We are looking for people who can make a real difference to the lives of children and young people in Queensland. If you worked with children or young people in a professional capacity or even if you have no previous experience but feel you have the qualities needed, you could be the right person to become a foster carer.

Foster carer support and training

At Key Assets Fostering, our approach is based upon providing extensive support to the foster carers, children, young people and their families through multidisciplinary teams of child care professionals.

The support and training you receive will include:

  • Fostering Allowances based on the needs of a child
  • 24-hour support, 7 days a week
  • A team of Social Workers, Psychologists/Therapists, Education Specialists and Support Workers
  • High quality training
  • 21 days respite

Who can become a foster carer?

We are looking to recruit carers who are available to foster full-time.

We ask that you have the necessary space in your home for children and young people and that you are prepared to care for children who are 7 years old and older who may have complex needs as a result of challenging behaviours or a disability.

Further information about becoming a foster carer can be found on the who can foster page.
