Foster carers training

Key Assets Fostering is committed to providing quality training to foster carers that is accessible and relevant.

Foster carers training is viewed as an important element of foster carer support and comprehensive pre and post approval training is made available.

Why foster carers training matters

Concerns such as anti-social behaviour, drug and alcohol use, obesity and literacy of fostered children have all become prominent in recent years. The impact of negative press coverage has contributed to an air of apprehension about foster care in Queensland to prospective foster carers.

In terms of the complex life experiences of children and youth who are fostered in Queensland, we believe that it is particularly crucial that foster carers are provided with high quality training, learning and development opportunities. This increases their knowledge, skills and confidence in a wide range of subjects and areas.

Mandatory foster carers training

Carers must complete the pre-service Department of Communities; Quality Care – Training for Foster Carers (Modules 1 -4) and post-approval training is provided through the Key Assets Fostering Core Curriculum and completion of the Quality Care – Foster Carer Training (Modules 5 – 7).
