Key Assets specialises in providing out-of-home care for children who are 7 years old and older, although we do care for younger children too. Many of the children we foster have high and complex needs as a result of challenging behaviours or because they have a disability.
Children requiring foster care in Queensland have usually experienced trauma, neglect or rejection.
Some children express their emotions and feelings through difficult or challenging behaviour such as tantrums, being withdrawn, aggressive, clingy, rejecting or over-compliant.
Other children we foster may act older or younger than their years, or as a result of being placed with many different carers may not know what is expected of them, or may find it difficult to develop trusting relationships with adults.
Some older children fostered may have developed drinking or drug taking habits as a result of difficult life experiences.
Currently approximately 35% of children in out of home care in Queensland are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders.
Key Assets is keen to speak with a wide range of foster carers to ensure that our foster placements are matched to suit the children and young people we foster and that we work hard to ensure the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child Placement Principle is adhered too.
