Foster care means looking after a child or young person who is not your own, in your own home, full time. Foster care can last for days, weeks, months or years and can be for children of various age groups and needs.
Find out why children need foster care to understand the complexities of their needs and why we are currently recruiting foster carers in South Australia.
If you become a foster carer with Key Assets Fostering, you may be asked to care for a group of siblings or a single child. These children could be starting school or approaching the age of independence. They could live with you for just a few days or for several years.
It all depends on what type of foster care placement you take on. At Key Assets Fostering, we are looking for foster carers for a wide range of placements, including long term fostering placements to provide permanence and stability to children and young people who may have experienced several placement breakdowns as a result of earlier life difficulties.
We are also recruiting foster carers who can offer respite care to children which can last for a few days or weeks, and Parent and Child Assessment carers who can offer guidance to young parents as well as support for their children.
Placements for children in foster care in South Australia are primarily provided by Families SA. Key Assets Fostering works with Families SA, taking referrals for children who often have high and complex needs and require a certain level of care. These foster children are then placed in a family environment in the home of one of our foster carers.
We recruit foster carers regardless of gender, race and ethnicity, religion and belief or sexual orientation. We are looking for foster carers who are enthusiastic about making a lasting difference to the lives of children and young people and can offer opportunities for positive growth and a brighter future.
