Information for the Department for Child Protection

Key Assets Fostering is not-for-profit organisation which operates as a non-government foster care provider in Western Australia.

Our foster care services are designed to meet the complex needs of children and young people who are experiencing serious problems and who may make considerable demands on their foster carers.

We also offer culturally focused alternative care arrangements for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in line with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child Placement Principle.

Our approach to foster care

Through our unique approach to fostering, we are bringing the established framework of the international Core Assets Group to Western Australia through Team Parenting™. Team Parenting™ is an approach to foster care that provides intensive foster carer training and comprehensive support services for foster carers, children and young people, and birth families. These services are delivered by a range of multidisciplinary professionals.

Key Assets Fostering placements

We provide a wide range of family-based foster care services, including:

  • Emergency foster care placements – Providing foster carers for individual children and sibling groups who need somewhere safe to stay immediately.
  • Short term foster care placements – Providing foster carers to look after children or young people for a few months until difficulties at home are resolved or alternative care plans are made.
  • Long term foster care placements – Providing foster carers to provide safe and stable homes for children for a year of more, or until they reach the age of independence and are ready to support themselves.
  • Parent and Child Assessment foster care placements – Providing foster carers to look after a parent and her/his child/ren or a young woman who is pregnant. These carers are provided with additional professional training.

Working with the DCP

Our services are available to commission on an individual or block contract basis. Our alternative care arrangements are designed to cater for children and young people of all ages with complex needs. All our practices adhere to the Department for Child Protection out of home care standards and regulations.

The role of Key Assets Fostering is to complement foster care services provided by the Department for Child Protection by working in strategic partnership our Department colleagues.
