Why do children need foster care?
According to the Department for Child Protection, in 2011 there are over 3,500 foster children in Western Australia. Of these, around 45% were of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent.
Children come into foster care for a wide range of often complex situations. Children in need of foster care in Western Australia may have been neglected or abused or been living in an environment where there is drug and other substance taking. All children will have experienced the loss and separation from their birth family.
Challenging needs
As a result of their experiences, many children who come into foster care in Western Australia have challenging needs. As a non-government fostering agency, we work in partnership with the Department for Child Protection by providing high quality foster care placements for children and young people with challenging needs within a family environment.
Our foster carers are suitably trained and supported to receive foster care placements.
