New Key Assets Office opens in Mandurah

Amidst much excitement Key Assets has opened an office in Mandurah, 60 kilometres south of our Fremantle office. The new Key Assets Office is more accessible to our current carers based between Mandurah and Bunbury. This office also addresses the urgent need for more country foster carers.

New Office

Attending the celebration on 21 May 2009 were Key Assets carers and young people, colleagues from the Department for Child Protection, Elders and members of the Aboriginal community and the fostering sector, and Key Assets staff.

The office was officially opened by Estella Abraham, Chief Executive Officer of the Key Assets Group of Not for Profit Companies that care for children all over Australasia. Estella is pictured below with Key Assets foster carers Cheryl and Ray Parish.

The opening commenced with a Welcome to Country by an Aboriginal Elder Harry Nannup, pictured below with Liesel Olney, and the traditional smoking ceremony was performed by George Walley (see below).

People at the opening, including the Key Assets team pictured below were entertained by George Walley’s beautiful rendition of “Motherless child”, an African/American song. Following the formal elements to the opening ceremony everyone enjoyed a wonderful feast.

There were almost two thousand entrants and thousands of spectators - it was such an exciting day. Our team wore bibs with the KA logo on front and Could you be a Foster Carer? and the website on the back.

Our team member for the bike leg said that during the ride he had 2 "older ladies" (Matt is all of 22) riding near him who said they would give him a call this week to find out more about fostering!

As our runner came towards the finish line, commentator Simon Beaumont from Radio 6PR announced "Key Assets Fostering team is finishing strong". There were thousands of people watching...... we were impressed with the exposure we received.
